Extraction of Dump Truck Begins

Written by on December 5, 2018

A major effort is underway this week to recover the mining truck that went off a cliff in October, killing a Cody man who was working on the Chief Joseph Highway project.
According to Cody Beers with the Wyoming Department of Transportation, R. J. Corman Railroad Services, a national company that specializes in cleaning up train derailments, began this week to cut the vehicle into pieces at the bottom of Dead Indian Creek, and he says the effort will begin today to bring the pieces of the truck up out of the canyon.

Beers says that a large Chinook helicopter will be deployed to haul the pieces of the vehicle out of the canyon. He points out that the process is tricky, and he discouraged residents from attempting to drive up to watch the extraction.

Cody resident Ronald Frankenberry died on October 12th when the truck he was driving went off the edge of the 250 foot cliff during a construction project to stabilize a landslide that was damaging the Chief Joseph Highway.
