Public Meeting Presents Intersection Options

Written by on December 5, 2018

A public meeting this evening will present options that could alleviate the dangers at the often-confusing intersection at 17th Street and Sheridan Avenue in Cody.
CPG Engineering is holding the meeting this evening at 6 p.m. at the Cody Auditorium. At that time, they will present several options to the public that would address the concerns of drivers and City officials. Cost of the various options range from $50,000 to $14 million dollars, and involve either simple fixes such as eliminating eastbound traffic, to more complex solutions such as re-configuring the intersection completely, displacing businesses.
The Engineering firm was hired in April to study the intersection at Sheridan Avenue and 17th street, after concerns were raised by law enforcement and the traveling public. According to police records, almost 20 accidents have occurred at the intersection between Pinnacle Bank and the Holiday Inn parking lot since 2012. While no one has been seriously injured, the configuration of the intersection can be confusing to drivers.
Officials with the City of Cody say that public comments taken both at tonight’s meeting and by other forms of communication will be considered and incorporated into the final report.
