Fatal ATV Crash on the Northfork | Big Horn Basin Media

On Friday, July 14 at 11 a.m., the Park County Communications Division received a 911 call reporting an ATV crash that occurred on the Northfork in a field field at 3461 Hwy 14-16-20 W causing serious injury of the ATV operator.

According to a press release, dispatch was informed that a lone male had been ejected from a side-by-side ATV when it rolled over onto his head and chest, causing fatal injuries.

Bystanders were able to remove the ATV from atop the victim and begin performing CPR immediately until paramedics arrived.

The victim has been identified as Ian Vilkama, 21, of Wheaton, IL. He was not wearing a helmet.

Cody Regional Health EMS and the Cody Fire Department were dispatched, along with the Park County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

When first responders arrived, they continued resuscitation efforts, but he unfortunately Vilkama succumbed to his injuries.

The Park County Coroner, Cody Gortmaker, has ruled the cause of death to be massive head trauma.
