Fatality on Powell Highway
Written by Andrew-Rossi on October 3, 2018
One person died yesterday morning after a vehicle rear ended a truck that was turning into the beet dump just west of Powell.
Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper Bill Daugherty says that the accident happened at mile marker 17 just before 7 a.m. yesterday, when a fully loaded beet truck traveling east on Highway 14A slowed to make a turn and the vehicle that was following did not slow down, crashing at full speed into the rear end of the truck.
Daugherty noted that there was no indication that the driver of the Mazda tried to stop before the crash. He added that this was the second crash in recent weeks involving a vehicle rear-ending a beet truck, and cautioned drivers to pay attention, particularly during harvest time.
Driver inattention is being investigated as a contributing factor to the crash. Trooper Daugherty says that the name of the victim has not been released yet, as the agency needs to make certain that the family has been notified.
