Both Cody Basketball teams were in action over the weekend hosting Star Valley and Jackson.
The Cody Fillies came away with a weekend sweep over both visiting teams, defeating Star Valley 51-29 and downed Jackson 53-20.
The Fillies would outscore both their opponents in the first quarter 39-3.
Against Star Valley, the Fillies led 15-2 after the first frame and never looked back. Brindi Brittain would connect on a 3-point heave to end the contest that punctuated the victory.
Against, Jackson the Fillies, once again, got out to an early lead, 24-1 after one quarter and led 34-5 at the half as they cruised to their 14th win of the season.
Molly Hays led the way over the weekend dropping in 34 total points, Reece Niemann had 23, Kennedi Niemann added 15. and Ally Boysen had 14. Jessa Lynn had six, Victory Buck had five, Izzy Radakovich had four and Brindi Brittain the three.
The Fillies are now 14-0 this season.
As for the Cody Broncs, following their 62-42 defeat, against Star Valley, they would bounce back to defeat Jackson by a final of 52-44.
The win vs. Jackson was one of their more complete wins this season.
The Broncs found themselves down early, 15-7, after one quarter but battled back to trail by four, 22-18 at the intermission.
It was the halftime adjustments that vaulted Cody over Jackson. Cody would change their defense and played a 2-3 zone which allowed them to get their athletes in space and cause havoc, forcing Jackson into errant shots and erratic play and the Broncs, of Cody, took advantage.
Luke Talich had it all working, found his stroke from behind the arc while attempting 13 free throws. After struggling from the floor the last couple games, Cody would drop in eight made 3-pointers. It was Talich’s 3-pointer in the third that really turned the tide.
Cody would take a 35-32 lead into the fourth, led by 10 at one point in the final frame and downed Jackson in the end with late free throws.
Talich led the way with 16 points, three made 3’s and was 7-13 from the charity stripe. Grady McCarten had 10.
With the win, the Cody Broncs are now 4-10 on the season.
