Filly Basketball Stymies Sheridan, Broncs Drop a Pair
Written by Cole Havens on December 19, 2022
The Cody Basketball teams were back in action over the weekend.
We’ll start with a look at the Fillies, who had just one game played and that was against Sheridan, on Saturday.
Molly Hays would drop in 26 points and the Fillies came away with the 58-43 win to open the season 4-0.
The Fillies would jump out to an early 12-11 lead after one quarter of play and really turned on the defensive pressure in the 2nd frame. Cody outscored Sheridan 16-8 in the second to take a 28-19 lead into halftime.
At that point the Fillies smelled blood in the water and continued to capitalize on Sheridan’s miscues as they began to pull away in the third, leading 43-29 after three. They would then cruise to their 4th win of the season.
The Fillies forced the Lady Broncs to commit nearly 20 turnovers in the contest while only coughing up the rock six times themselves.
Victory Buck added 16 for the Fillies who enter the holiday break undefeated.

As for the Broncs, they would have a pair of games over the weekend.
On Friday, they played host to their Park County Rivals, Powell. Jhett Schwann would play hero for the Panthers knocking in two clutch free throws with .5 seconds on the clock to sink the Broncs, 51-49.
The Broncs would lead throughout the majority of the game as they had a 16-11 lead after one and went into the halftime locker room up 2.
Just when it looked like the Broncs were ready to pull away in the 3rd, up by 7 with a few minutes to go, Powell went on a run and closed out the quarter down 3.
The Panthers would use a huge fourth quarter to take over. They took the lead late, for the first time since the first quarter. Cody would battle back and Wilkins Radakovich would tie up the game at 49 a-piece with 7 seconds left.
On the ensuing possession, the Broncs upped the pressure and forced Powell to lose the ball but with .5 on the clock the Broncs were called for a loose ball foul and the rest is history.
Kam Niemann led the way for Cody with 15 in the game. Chase Hatch added 10.
Powell was led by Brock Johnson with 19. Gunner Erickson added 13 for Powell.
The Panthers are now 2-2 on the season.
The Broncs, then took to the road the next day for a battle with the other Broncs of Sheridan.
Sheridan would capitalize on a big second quarter and hung on to defeat Cody 62-51.
This game was close throughout with Cody leading by 2 after one quarter.
Sheridan’s big 2nd quarter was the difference as they outscored Cody 22-11 in the frame.
That was all Sheridan needed as the two teams would match each other point-for-point in the second half.
Kam Niemann again led the way dropping in 18 for Cody.
Following the weekend the Broncs are now 2-3 on the season.
