“Firesmart” Workshop in Worland Next Monday

Written by on April 29, 2019

A workshop in Worland next Monday will help landowners in the Big Horn Basin prepare for wildfire season.

Chris Weydeveld, Washakie County Firesmart Coordinator, will lead the class that will help residents in areas that border wildlands to prepare their homes for wildfires that have been increasing in size and intensity in the last few years.

Weydeveld says the interactive workshop will feature information on reducing wildfire risk to property and buildings for those in the urban-wildland interface, as well as how to create a defensible space around homes and buildings that will protect property but still look good.

Speakers at the workshop will include CJ Grimes, Wildlife Biologist with Canyon Wren Consulting in Tensleep; Chris Kocher, Washakie County Fire Warden and Worland Fire Chief; and Russ Linneman, Fuels Treatment Contractor.

The FREE workshop will be held Monday, May 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Worland Community Center Complex.
