Forest Service Planned Burns This Week

If you see smoke in the forest between Cody and Yellowstone this week, it’s not a wildfire.
Shoshone National Forest crews will be burning small piles of brush and branches west of Cody near Highway 14/16/20 over the next few days. Officials say the work may cause smoke to be visible.
According to Forest Service staff, the piles are made up of materials from previous prescribed burns that weren’t consumed by those fires. Those prescribed burns are tools utilized by forest managers to reduce fuel buildup and decrease the likelihood of more serious fires.
