Free Meals for Kids All Summer
Written by Andrew-Rossi on July 14, 2017
Free meals are available to all children in Cody this summer – but many aren’t taking advantage of this service.
According to the nonprofit group Hunger Free America, humans must burn more calories over the summer to keep cool – and record temperatures this summer will further increase the need for free summer meals for low-income children funded by the federal government.
The group says that 81.5 percent of eligible children in Wyoming are failing to get the free summer meals, which this summer are being provided in Cody at the Paul Stock Aquatics and Recreation Center. Kym Quinn, Youth Coordinator for the Rec Center, says the federal funds will provide lunch and a snack to any child almost any Monday through Friday this summer.
Hunger Free America is working to publicize the USDA National Hunger Hotline, which can be reached at 1-866-3-HUNGRY. By calling this number, residents can locate summer meals sites for kids, food pantries or soup kitchens for families, and other government and private meals programs near them.
