Fundraiser Supports Mustang Herd

Written by on September 7, 2018

Local residents can help support one of Wyoming’s treasured resources this weekend.
The organization Friends of a Legacy, or FOAL, is holding its fifth annual Mustang Rendezvous tomorrow at the Boot and Bottle Club in Cody. The non-profit group is devoted to the preservation and protection of the McCullough Peaks wild horse herd, which is located between 12 and 27 miles east of Cody.
According to reports, there are currently about 75,000 horses on public lands in the western states. Marion Morrison, executive director of FOAL, says that the McCullough Peaks wild horse herd is one of the best-managed herds in the country, and she attributes that to the partnership between their organization and the Bureau of Land Management.

The event tomorrow will raise funds for the contraception program, and will also support maintaining the rangeland. Morrison says that there are projects underway that enhance water storage in scattered locations on the range, which helps keep the horses from over-grazing any one particular area.
She adds that it’s important that people support their efforts in order to keep the wild horses healthy and free.

The event tomorrow begins at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the Cody Chamber and on the website www.friendsofalegacy.org .
