Get Back on Track
Written by Wendy Corr on May 5, 2017
I get it – you’ve heard it all. You KNOW that it’s better to eat whole foods. You KNOW that you need to exercise more. You’ve got the workout plan, you’ve got the meal plan. But you just need to get started! I’m Wendy Corr, and in today’s wellness tip, I’ll give you some ideas on how to get motivated to get back on track!
Even nutritionists and fitness professionals need a boost sometimes – we’ve got all the education, but we’re still susceptible to the temptations of sugary treats and the urge to binge on Netflix and popcorn.
So how do we get it together and kick ourselves into gear when we need to? Here are a few tips to get back on track with your healthy habits.
First, determine your motivation. WHY do you need to be more disciplined? Do you have a hard time fitting into your jeans? Or do you just feel sluggish and foggy? Find your “why” and keep it at the top of your mind.
Second, choose a goal that’s attainable. Whether it’s losing a certain number of pounds, or overcoming a fitness obstacle, having several short term goals and then an overall goal will help keep you motivated.
Finding an accountability partner is key to getting back on track. Reach out to a friend or relative and ask them to be your cheerleader – or your walking buddy!
Get excited! Find a plan that is interesting to you, that has you looking up recipes, and one that is custom made for your tendencies and preferences. You’re uniquely qualified to know what foods you absolutely won’t eat, and what workouts work best for your personality. Don’t choose some cookie cutter diet plan or workout plan that you know you can’t sustain.
Identify the emotional obstacles in your way – and have a plan in place to overcome them. Celebrate the small achievements – and forgive yourself when you fall short. The path to good health isn’t a straight line!
