Grizzly Bear Meeting This Thursday

Written by on November 28, 2017

A meeting Thursday at the Holiday Inn in Cody will focus on the matter of grizzly bear management.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will begin conversations with the public to talk about grizzly bears and grizzly bear management. Now that the species has been de-listed, the management of bears in Wyoming will be guided by a new plan, according to Dan Smith, Regional Wildlife Supervisor in the Cody office.

The meeting Thursday, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, will be an opportunity for those who are interested to weigh in on all components of grizzly bear management and ask questions. Smith said there are five primary areas in which the Department is seeking input – monitoring, research, outreach education, hunting, and conflict management.

Joe Kondelis, president of the Western Bear Foundation, says their organization is in full support of a grizzly hunting season. Kondelis sent an email earlier this month to members and the media encouraging them to attend the meeting. He urged those who are interested to bring well thought out questions and comments with a focus on Science Based Conservation.
