Hampton Inn Plans Stalled

Written by on May 2, 2019

After causing a stir when the plans were unveiled, not much has happened to move forward with the construction of a Hampton Inn on the West Strip in Cody.

The City’s Planning and Zoning Board last met on the issue in January. The plans, as presented by John Koehler with Tucson Hospitality, call for a contemporary styled Hampton Inn and Suites, which will take up about a quarter of the lot that currently sits vacant at the bottom of the Southfork Hill, just west of the empty buildings that used to house the Grace Baptist Church.

However, concerns were raised about access to the property and traffic impacts.

Cody City Planner Todd Stowell says the developer is still actively working with the Wyoming Department of Transportation regarding access to the property from the South Fork Hill.  The developers’ initial access request was denied by WYDOT at both the local and state level, but they now have a new access plan that he says was just submitted to WYDOT for consideration.
