Many Activities to Kick Off Tourist Season

Written by on May 2, 2019

It’s going to be a busy weekend in Park County.

Between Meeteetse’s May Day events, the Miss Cody Stampede Coronation, the Northwest Battle Buddies Gala, and Fire School, among other events, the local hotels and restaurants will be getting a taste of what our summer tourist season will look like.

The Cody Fire School has been an annual event since 1974, according to Jeremy Blaylock, organizer of this year’s Fire School. He says several hundred firefighters from all over the country will be coming into town tomorrow, along with at least 60 instructors, and many will bring their families.

In addition to Fire School and the other events scheduled for the weekend, the East Entrance to Yellowstone will be opening tomorrow morning, along with other select roads in the park.

However, Park officials caution that a significant snowpack still exists in the Sylvan Pass area, so they will be monitoring avalanche conditions, and temporary closures may occur.

As construction is still ongoing with the Fishing Bridge project, officials say that for the 2019 season, travelers should expect 30-minute delays along the East Entrance Road between Fishing Bridge and Indian Pond.
