Heart Mountain Trail Re-Opens Saturday

Written by on June 12, 2018

The Heart Mountain trail will officially re-open this Saturday.
The trail is opening a little later than usual this year, according to Bebe Crouse, associate Director of Communications for the Nature Conservancy. She says that the trail had closed due to bear activity in the region. Due to the winter’s heavy snows, bears have been hanging around a little longer than in recent years, which required the Conservancy to extend the trail closure longer than in the past.
However, Crouse points out that the trail is re-opening with special conditions. Hikers are required to only travel in groups, and bear spray is mandatory. Additionally, no cross-country treks are allowed – hikers must remain on the trail at all times.
Crouse says that Heart Mountain is, quote, “a cherished place for the community,” endquote, and the Conservancy wishes to make the trail available to everyone while still protecting its natural values.
