Traffic Frees Up On North Fork | Big Horn Basin Media

North Fork Delays Over – For Now

Written by on June 12, 2018

The rockfall mitigation project west of Cody has mostly wound down, freeing up some time for commuters and visitors traveling the North Fork highway.
Commuters have been mostly patient with the work that was done to scale loose rock from the steep walls west of the tunnels in Cody. Sadly, the work resulted in a fatality shortly after the project began, after a worker was struck on the head by falling rock. However, the rest of the project has gone relatively smoothly, according to Cody Beers with the Wyoming Department of Transportation, and the work will pause for the remainder of the summer.

Beers adds that the climbing area parking lot project is also almost complete, with some final touches left to happen, but no traffic delays are anticipated for that work.
Farther up the North Fork Highway, Beers says that the work at Unnamed Draw just east of the entrance to Yellowstone continues after a major mudslide closed the highway several weeks ago. He says that the Department may need to hire a contractor to clean out the mud and debris from underneath the bridge, which has been the location of three major mudslides in the last fourteen years. However, he says there appears to be no permanent damage to the bridge after this most recent incident.
