Kids Fishing Day Tomorrow

Written by on June 1, 2018

Tomorrow is free fishing day throughout the state of Wyoming, and two local organizations have partnered to take advantage of that by teaching youngsters how to fish.
The annual Kids Fishing Day will be taking place tomorrow at Beck Lake Park. The Cody Optimist Club and the local chapter of Trout Unlimited will be heading up the event, partnering with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Shoshone National Forest, and other agencies to help kids 14 and under learn to fish.
Steve Woods with the Cody Optimist Club, and George Simonton with Trout Unlimited, appeared on KODI’s Partyline this week, and Simonton explained that the point of the event is to help kids discover the joy of fishing.

Simonton explained that there are classes that will be offered for free to kids beginning at 9 a.m., including casting, knot tying, fish identification, and fish handling and releasing. Additionally, there will be prizes offered for different categories after the final weigh in at 2 p.m.
Fishing poles will be provided for those who don’t have their own equipment, according to Simonton, and there will be a free lunch for kids.
