Lummis Introduces Bipartisan Effort to Broaden Wyoming’s Telehealth and Education Access

U.S. Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Jacky Rosen (D-NV) lead the way on a bipartisan bill called “Strengthening Telehealth and Education for Rural Communities Act”.

The bill focuses on increasing rural access to telehealth and educational services by reauthorizing the Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant Program, which provides funding to rural and tribal communities in the Cowboy State to facilitate such projects.

The main objective is to help rural communities use advanced telecommunications and educational technology to connect to each other, overcoming the effects of remoteness and low population density.

“People living in rural Wyoming deserve the same access to health care and education that folks in urban areas have, and that can help be achieved through the utilization of telecommunications technology,” said Senator Lummis.

“Reauthorizing the Distance Learning Telemedicine Program will allow for rural areas in Wyoming, including tribes, to continue having access to this important funding,” continued Senator Lummis.

This legislation will help narrow the rural and urban gap by ensuring high-quality education and healthcare is accessible online to tribal and rural communities across Wyoming.

Last month, Senator Lummis received the Defender of Limited Government Award and ranked in the top 10 senators defending limited government on the scorecard.
