Missing Worland Woman Still Not Located Despite Multiple Searches

The Washakie County Sheriff’s Office has released an update about missing Worland woman, Breanna Mitchell.

Despite the department and volunteers’ efforts in last week’s searches, Mitchell has not been located.

On Friday, August 11, a total of 45 Search and Rescue personnel from Washakie County, Hot Springs County, Park County, Sheridan County, Johnson County, and Big Horn County searched the area of Mitchell’s last known location until dark. A helicopter even assisted in the search.

Sheriff Austin Brookwell estimated over 20 square miles were searched, but he is still waiting on an exact total from Search and Rescue personnel.

“Unfortunately, nothing of importance was discovered,” said Brookwell in a Facebook update on the department’s social page.

Find-911 is currently working on processing images they took using state of the art software and should be getting back to the Washakie County Sheriff’s Office this week.

Sheriff Brookwell extended sincere gratitude to all of the departments and volunteers who has assisted in the case thus far.

“It was truly impressive to make a phone call and have this amount of support show up,” said Brookwell. “Wyoming is truly lucky to have these individuals volunteering their time to assist with lost and missing persons.”

At this time, the Washakie County Sheriff’s Office will no longer be searching the Nowater Road area for Mitchell. The department intends to put their efforts into processing tips from the community, cell phone data, search warrants, and any additional leads they may receive.

“We currently have no evidence to prove there was any ‘foul play’ regarding her disappearance,” Brookwell said. “Remember, we have to work on evidence, not on rumors.”

The Washakie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating her call logs and text messages. They are also interviewing individuals who were in contact with Mitchell.

The department is still waiting on data from Facebook and Snapchat that they requested through search warrants. Large tech companies such as Meta take a longer time to get the data back to investigators.

Sheriff Brookwell also announced that this will be the last update related to Mitchell’s case unless something significant occurs.
