Motorcycle Traffic Already Growing

Written by on July 23, 2018

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is more than a week away, but the number of motorcycles on the road is increasing daily.
The 78th annual rally begins next Friday, August 3rd, in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and will run through the 12th. But because of the event’s proximity to Wyoming, and the opportunities for scenic driving in our area, many riders choose to take their trips early and sightsee along the way. That’s according to Cody Police Lieutenant Jason Stafford, who says that all law enforcement agencies are increasing their alert levels regarding motorcycle safety and awareness.

Stafford praised the Wyoming Department of Transportation, pointing out that they are doing a good job of pushing their safety campaigns through their dynamic message boards urging people to watch out for motorcycles.
Last year, the South Dakota Highway Patrol recorded eight traffic fatalities related to the Sturgis Rally, and 68 injury crashes.
