The race for the Republican candidate for House District 24 is over.
Voters overwhelmingly chose Cody businesswoman Sandy Newsome to represent the district, giving her almost 56 percent of the 2500 votes submitted for the seat. Denise Shirley brought in just over 500 votes, and Richard Jones came in third with 442.
Newsome will face Democrat Paul Fees in the November election.
In the state senate race for district 19, incumbent Ray Peterson lost soundly to R.J. Kost, who brought in 63 percent of the votes cast. Running unopposed for their seats were Dan Laursen in House District 25, Jamie Flitner for House District 26, Mike Greear in House District 27, and David Northrup for House District 50.
In Park County, Tim Morrison beat John Winter to represent House District 28, but the results were reversed in Big Horn County. The total votes for the district which covers four counties resulted in John Winter winning the seat – he will face off against Democrat Howie Samelson in November.
