Not Enough School Board Candidates
Written by Andrew-Rossi on August 24, 2018
Time is running out for potential candidates to file for a position on the board for Park County School District 6.
Four of the seven board members are stepping down at the end of this year, but only two people so far have filed for a seat on the board, and the deadline for filing is this coming Monday. Former teacher Nicole Tisthammer and local businesswoman Robin Berry have both filed for the seat that was vacated this spring by Rebecca George, but no one else has stepped forward to file for candidacy for what Superintendent Ray Shulte admittedly calls a tough job.
Lisa Constantine was appointed this spring to complete this year’s term for Rebecca George, but Shulte says Constantine has said that she would like to see someone else in that seat after this year. Also going off the board are William Streumke, Scott Weber, and chairperson Kelly Simone.
Shulte says that should no one else file for candidacy by the deadline on Monday, he has seen in other districts that the county commissioners act as trustees on the school board. But he says he can’t speculate as to what could happen.
