Payne Sculpture Featured During Art Walk

A sculpture that invites visitors to interact with the art will be unveiled this week at Bell Plaza in Cody.
Vic Payne’s bronze “Born Under a Wandering Star” is a bench that features Buffalo Bill Cody sitting on a log. Graham Jackson with the Cody Country Art League says that this project has been in the works for the past several years as a coordinated effort between Vic Payne Studios and Buffalo Bill Art Show director Kathy Thompson.

Payne was working on the sculpture in the hub of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West last year during Rendezvous Royale, and it will be featured during this Thursday’s Art Walk, part of this year’s Rendezvous activities. Payne’s wife, Angie, credits Kathy Thompson for encouraging the project.

Jackson points out, however, that the bench will not remain at Bell Plaza.

The Art Walk is just one of a series of events during this year’s week-long celebration of art and artisans in Cody. A complete list of Rendezvous Royale activities can be found on the website rendezvouzroyale.org .
