Phone Scam Targeting Park County Elderly

The Park County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a warning about a scam that’s targeting elderly residents.
In a Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Office says that their dispatch center has been receiving reports about a female caller telephoning elderly residents and asking them if they have Medicare. The caller then begins asking for personal information.
The caller ID has the call identifying with a 307 area code, and the victims receive multiple calls from the same number.
Department officials say that the best advice for anyone receiving a similar call or any call asking for personal information, such as address, date of birth, or social security number, is to simply hang up. They say you should never give anyone your personal information over the phone or via an electronic communication unless you are absolutely sure of the caller’s identity.
