Police Department Relies on Community

Sometimes the good guys win.
And sometimes they win because good people step up to help.
Such was the case in a recent hit and run incident at Wal-Mart. According to Cody Police Lieutenant Jason Stafford, earlier this month the department received a tip about the accident from their tip line, several hours before the victim even reported the incident. Stafford says the tip from the witness resulted in a citation being issued for leaving the scene of an accident.
Stafford says the department has had a high success rate in helping to identify suspects using social media and the internet.
Stafford adds that any type of assistance from the community is appreciated, which is why they use the social media tools at their disposal.
Anyone who witnesses a crime is urged to either call dispatch at 527-8700, or contact the department anonymously through a form on the City’s website.
