**UPDATE**

The gas leak behind the Middle School in Powell has been corrected. According to information from the Powell Middle School, the issue has been corrected, the school tested for gas, and the all clear has been issued. Students have returned to class as normal for the remainder of the day.

A construction crew working behind Powell Middle School this morning has struck a gas line, causing the evacuation of the school.
Joyce Ruward with the School District says that students and staff were moved out to the front of the school for safety, but that it was just a precaution. She says that the gas company and fire department are on the scene monitoring the situation.
Ruward says that the safety of the students and staff are their foremost concern, and at this time no one is in danger, there is no gas inside or outside the building. There are no plans at this moment to cancel school, but she says the administration may send students home if safety is a concern.
