Power Outage in Cody Caused by Racoon
Written by Mac Morey on April 8, 2021
Wednesday into Thursday night Cody experienced a power outage that spanned over about a third of the city.
The reason for that power outage was not blistering Wyoming winds or any sort of precipitation, but instead, a raccoon.
The little critter got up into the WAPA substation up on Glendale near Beck Lake according to Dane Austin, Electric Superintendent of the Cody.
Austin said that “he tripped out a sub and that it’s “the third time it’s happened.”
Dispatch got the news at 4:30 this morning, got to the site at about 5:00 AM, and a little after 6:00 AM power had been restored.
The plan will be to up the infrastructure surrounding the substation in order to keep those trash pandas out and away from any of the wirings for the electrical grids.
All power is restored in Cody now.
