Prescribed Burns Scheduled

Now that it’s spring, burn season has begun for the Bureau of Land Management.
Officials at the BLM Wind River/Bighorn Basin District say they have tentative plans to conduct four prescribed fire projects within the Cody and Worland field office areas this spring, as part of the BLM’s commitment to keeping public landscapes healthy and productive.
The projects may be conducted in late March through May at Hooligan Springs, about 10 miles north of Ten Sleep; at Medicine Lodge just northeast of Hyattville; at Noon Point, 20 miles southwest of Meeteetse, and on the West Slope of the Bighorns, 15 miles east of Lovell.
BLM Fire Management Officer Rich Zimmerlee says the projects are designed to enhance rangeland and woodland vegetation health, improve wildlife habitat, increase livestock and wildlife forage and improve distribution, and reduce the hazardous build-up of fuels, which lessens the probability of a severe wildfire.
