Prioritize for Peace of Mind
Written by Wendy Corr on April 18, 2019
Do you ever wonder HOW you’ll ever fit all the things you need to do into one day? There are so many demands on our time – kids, work, volunteering. Errands to run, bills to pay. Laundry, dishes, grocery shopping. And THEN we’re pressured to look our best, eat right and work out! How to balance it all? I’m Wendy Corr, and that’s the topic of today’s daily wellness!
Boy, do I understand about being busy. Personally, I have five jobs – not kidding! News director at the radio station, nutritionist, worship leader, essential oils trainer, and professional musician. Plus I keep on top of my kids’ lives and maintain relationships with friends and family.
So how do I keep these all in balance without keeling over? It’s about PRIORITIZING. And as much as many of us hate to admit it, eating right and exercise should be at the TOP of our priority list. It’s not about vanity, it’s about STRENGTH! How will we ever have the strength to take care of the rest of our lives, if we don’t take care of our bodies?
Exercise shouldn’t feel like a chore or something that has to be checked off your to-do list. It should be a priority and an activity that fits into your daily routine, just like brushing your teeth or taking out the trash.
But it will only become a priority if you understand how important it is! Exercise increases your energy level, so you’re more productive. It helps keep your immune system up, so you have fewer sick days. Exercise helps you sleep better, so your mind will be clearer, allowing you to multi-task during your waking hours. And it improves your mood, so you feel less stressed out!
So start slow. Set some reasonable goals that you know you can accomplish. Sign up for an exercise class, or work out with a friend that will hold you accountable. If you don’t set up some sort of plan, it’s easy to back down and procrastinate. But be flexible – you need to be able to deal with changing priorities.
And most importantly, don’t be afraid to take care of yourself FIRST!
