Public Hearing on Wireless Transmitters

Wireless communications continue to be a topic of discussion for the Cody City Council.
For the last few meetings, Council has been reviewing and passing ordinances pertaining to wireless communication towers at various locations within the City limits. At tonight’s Council meeting, the public will have a chance to comment on how cell towers and wireless transmitters should be regulated in residential areas.
City Planner Todd Stowell says residents shouldn’t be alarmed that cell towers will be popping up in their neighborhoods – there are new technologies that are more appropriate for residential areas, that under a proposed new ordinance, would be allowed.
Stowell says that any business proposing to construct a new tower must go through a prioritizing process that requires companies to identify at least three alternative sites in industrial or commercial areas before proposing a tower in a residential area.
