Rockfall Hampers Travelers Tuesday

Written by on February 21, 2019

More rocks fell just west of the tunnels near Cody on Tuesday morning, hampering early morning traffic.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation tweeted early Tuesday morning that a lane of traffic was closed while maintenance crews cleared the road. Cody Beers with WYDOT says that this rockfall is part of a natural course of events this time of year.

The rocks that fell Tuesday were just outside the rockfall mitigation fence that was installed last year. Another rockfall project east of the tunnels was completed a couple of weeks ago, which Beers said went smoothly, taking just two days to finish.
