Rockfall Not Related to Tunnel Project

A large rock fell from the cliffs above the tunnels west of Cody yesterday morning, blocking traffic and damaging a guard rail.
According to Jim Berry, Maintenance Foreman with the Wyoming Department of Transportation, the rockfall occurred around 8:30 yesterday morning, on the east side of the easternmost tunnel on Highway 14/16/20.
The slide is in a different location from the multi-million-dollar rockfall mitigation project that took place over the last year and a half on the west side of the tunnels, and Cody Beers with the Wyoming Department of Transportation says that yesterday’s slide has no connection to that project.
A guardrail was heavily damaged, and motorists experienced short delays while the rockfall was cleaned up, which took about 4 hours.
