Senator Lummis Earns Award for Record of Protecting Taxpayers in 2022

The National Taxpayers Union (NTU) has released their annual congressional scorecard. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) earned 92% for the 2nd session of the 117th Congress and received a Taxpayers’ Friend Award for her 2022 voting record. In the Senate, the average score was only 45%.

The NTU has released a congressional scorecard that calculates a score for each member of Congress to evaluate their voting records for every vote that affects taxpayers since 1979.

This rating program is designed to calculate a member’s voting record on fiscal responsibility by evaluating every vote that has an impact on tax, spending, trade, and regulatory policy utilizing a methodical weighting system. The NTU bases its ratings off of 172 votes in the House of Representatives and 75 votes in the Senate in the 2nd session of the 117th Congress.

To receive an ‘A’ grade of 90% or higher is a significant accomplishment, and in 2022, 7 Senators and 5 Representatives received the Taxpayers’ Friend Award for their commitment to taxpayers. These numbers are an increase from the year prior with only 6 Senators and 2 Representatives receiving the award.
