“Shop With a Cop” Aids Needy Families

Law Enforcement officers from agencies throughout the Big Horn Basin joined forces yesterday with Walmart Associates in Cody to bring a little Christmas cheer to local families.
Officers and dispatchers from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Park County Sheriff, Big Horn County Sheriff, Cody Police, Powell Police, Cowley Police and Lovell Police Departments participated in the event, which was organized by former Highway Patrol Trooper Rodney Miears.
“Shop with a Cop” provides a day of shopping for children in need throughout the basin while at the same time creating a positive relationship between the child and law enforcement. The children were nominated by administrators at their respective schools.
This is the sixth year that officers participated in the program, which pairs them with a child that is then allowed to purchase gifts for themselves and their families. The 22 children participating last night were allotted between $134 and $275 dollars each, depending on their family situation.
The money for the presents came from Walmart, the Wyoming Highway Patrol Association, Park County Search & Rescue, and the Cody Police Department.
