Some of the Tastiest Foods in Wyoming

Written by on March 1, 2022

Everyone faces that tough decision to try and figure out what they’re going to have for dinner each night. It’s a battle that doesn’t end. When it comes to food, there are so many choices and maybe the abundance of said choices is what makes this daily question so difficult. The variety of food will vary based on the location. For example, the definition of “Mexican food” is completely different in Idaho than in California. Each state offers something different to the dinner plate. Today, we look at some of the best foods in the state of Wyoming.

  1. Bison Burgers

I’ll be honest, when I first heard about these I was hesitant to try it. I love burgers, but I thought these just sounded strange from the get-go. Then I tried one and my oh my it was delicious. The taste is very similar to that of a beef patty, but the difference comes with its texture. Its texture is much coarser, but it adds to the experience. Some of the popular toppings that you can find people indulging in with this burger are tomato, lettuce, caramelized onions, avocado, and bacon. When it comes to sauce, barbeque is a must… trust me on this one. While Bison patties can be grilled, I always recommend cooking them on a skillet to avoid the possibility of overcooking them. There are plenty of great restaurants in the state that offer bison burgers that you can’t go wrong with either.

  1. Trout

When it comes to outdoor recreation, fishing is very popular in Wyoming. With so many different rivers and lakes, it makes sense that trout makes this list. While there are many people who don’t like fish, Wyoming rewards those who do. The official state fish is cutthroat trout, but the state also houses rainbow, brown, and brook trout in many of its bodies of water. When it comes to fish the key is to not overcook it. Many people like to season fish with different spices such as lemon, pepper, garlic powder, butter, etc. On a side note, fish also makes for great jerky if done correctly. With many health benefits and being a good source of lean protein, we recommend you try fish for dinner soon.

  1. Steak

This should come as no surprise. A favorite amongst many in the state, I can honestly say I’ve gained some serious weight due to my constant desire to have steak for dinner. I can also say that I have yet to have had a cut of steak that I didn’t like. No matter which town you find yourself in, I can promise you one thing, you will find a steakhouse that is delicious. The two most popular cuts in Wyoming are the T-bone and the Ribeye. When it comes to cooking steak, it’s tough to beat grilling it on the barbeque. Seeing the grill marks and smelling it sizzle over the hot flame is an experience amongst itself. While the prices of meat have gone up within the last year, if can manage it, do it! Some popular sides to make with steak are baked/mashed potatoes, wild rice, corn on the cob, and don’t forget about the beans. We recommend seasoning your steak with salt and pepper, but many people like to use garlic and butter. Can’t go wrong with either!

Well after all of this, I’m starving. Wyoming is a great place to live. While the wind may blow harder here than anywhere else I’ve lived, Wyoming makes up for it with its selection of food. We recommend that the next time you are struggling to come up with something to make for dinner, you refer to this list! There’s a reason why these are the most popular within the state!
