On August 26th, 2022, KODI Radio received video footage of a traffic incident near Corbett Bridge around 4:30 p.m.
At the time, the details of the incident had not yet been confirmed.
Today, Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper Blain Mollett was able to share public information about the crash.
“On August 26th, 2022, at about 1608 hours a two-vehicle crash was reported at milepost 6.8 US 14A,” Mollett writes in his report.
There were two vehicles involved in the crash on that Friday, a 2007 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck and a 2005 Scion passenger car.
According to Mollett, “The Scion was westbound towards Cody and the Chevrolet PU was eastbound-preparing to turn left into the Corbett Bridge pullout. The driver of the PU failed to yield to the oncoming Scion and was T-boned by the Scion. Both vehicles came to rest blocking the westbound lane of travel.”
Both vehicles suffered extensive damage. The driver of the pickup truck has been identified as Steve Novakovich (47) of Cody/Deaver. Mr. Novakovich, based on Mollett’s report, was not wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, but he was arrested for a DUI.
The driver of the Scion has been identified as Diana Wentz (70) who was traveling with passenger Charles Wentz (82). Both people in the Scion were also not wearing seatbelts and suffered “life-threatening injuries.”
Trooper Mollett says that Charles Wentz is “still in critical condition,” and, as of Monday, Diana Wentz was still in the hospital.
