When it comes to state prep athletics that latest weekend, the Wyoming Coaches Association had its yearly All-Star Games of volleyball then girls and boys basketball from Casper College. The state’s North and South played each other throughout Saturday afternoon as well as into that evening, with the northerners actually being victorious by way of all three matchups. (These affairs are only for recently graduated seniors along with every Classification requiring representation; practices began last Wednesday.)
The North’s spikers beat that South gang three sets to two. (It was really 3-1, though they did a fifth set anyway.) Come this area locally: the Big Horn Basin got represented by Class 3A Cody High School Filly Macy McClure and Worland Senior HS Lady Warrior Casey Wassum along with 1A Meeteetse Lady Longhorn Matilynn May of the northern side.
By the girls hoopsters: the North blew out those southerners 80-49. Cody’s Ashlyn Bower scored five points, fellow 3A’s Hot Springs County HS Lady Bobcat Haley McDermott of Thermopolis recorded six, 2A level Greybull Lady Buffalo Makyela Sorensen posted three points, while 1A’s Burlington Lady Husky Jaci Christiansen notched double-figures with 11. (Kierra Cutright of the 4A Classification State champion Campbell County HS Lady Camels over Gillette had a game-best 25 points.)
Then come the boys roundballers: those northerners took care of that southern team 98-74. Cody Bronc Reese Andre scored 11 while Class 2A’s Lovell Bulldog Kyle Wolvington chipped in with nine points. (Gillette’s State crown-winning Campbell County HS Camel Trey Hladky paced all scorers by recording 23.)
