WYDOT Closer to a Solution for Chief Joe

Written by on June 6, 2018

The situation is stabilizing on the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway.
Cody Beers with the Wyoming Department of Transportation says that they are working towards a permanent solution for the landslide that began moving on April 19th. He says that construction could begin in August for a project that would solidify the highway and re-open the road to two-lane traffic.

Beers expressed the Department’s appreciation to the Forest Service District Ranger Sue Stressor and her staff to get the highway back in working order for this fast-moving project.
Beers added that they don’t expect any need for further repairs on a smaller slide that began in early May directly above the major slide area. He says that the warmer weather is drying the land up now and the hill is becoming more stable.
