Wyoming Highway Patrol Cites Trucker for Marijuana in Cab

Written by on June 8, 2023

The Wyoming Highway Patrol is clear: any amount of drugs and or alcohol in the cab or sleeper area of the truck is strictly prohibited. A recent encounter near Cody is a reminder of the consequences should anything be found in their vehicle.

On Tuesday afternoon, a traffic stop was conducted on a commercial vehicle on U.S. Highway 14 just outside Cody for a non-functioning brake light. As the vehicle pulled over, the Trooper also noticed the load on the back of the trailer was not properly secured.

Upon contact with the driver, the Trooper smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the cab. Upon further search of the cab, the Trooper found THC products and drug paraphernalia.

The driver was also found to have not been running logs. For these reasons, the driver was cited and placed out of service.

This traffic stop happened in the same week as “Secure Your Load Day” in Wyoming – part of a national effort to remind truck drivers to ensure their loads are sufficiently strapped and secured for the safety of themselves and other drivers. W.Y.D.O.T. recognized Secure Your Load Day on Tuesday, June 6.
