Yellowstone Quake Preparing for Showcase Tournament
Written by Cole Havens on December 9, 2019
THE YELLOWSTONE QUAKE CLOSED OUT THE FIRST HALF OF THE REGULAR SEASON LAST WEEKEND WITH LOSSES TO THE GREAT FALLS AMERICANS. THE QUAKE NOW SIT AT 5TH PLACE IN THE FRONTIER DIVISION WITH AN 8-16-2 RECORD, HEADING INTO THE SHOWCASE TOURNAMENT. IT’S A PROMISING RECORD FROM WHERE THEY WERE TO BEGIN THE SEASON.
BEFORE THE TEAM GETS A BREAK THEY WILL TAKE PART IN THE NA3HL SHOWCASE TOURNAMENT THIS COMING WEEKEND. THIS TOURNAMENT FEATURES TEAMS FROM ALL OVER THE U.S. COACH OBERLIN ON THE UPCOMING SHOWCASE TOURNAMENT.
“GOING INTO THE SHOWCASE WE THINK WE GOT A PRETTY GOOD DRAW. I THINK THAT WE MATCH-UP PRETTY WELL AGAINST SOME OF THOSE TEAMS THAT WE’RE SCHEDULED FOR. WE’RE PRETTY CONFIDENT GOING INTO THAT. WE JUST NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE’RE FOCUSED AND READY TO GO AND THAT WE’RE NOT, LIKE WE TALKED ABOUT LAST WEEK, GETTING ONTO BREAK TO QUICKLY MENTALLY.”
AS FOR WHAT HE WOULD LIKE TO SEE FROM HIS TEAM HEADING INTO THE SHOWCASE COACH OBERLIN TOUCHES ON THE OVERALL CONSISTENCY OF THE TEAM’S PLAY.
“COMMUNICATION WE’VE HARPED ON ALL YEAR. IT’S GETTING BETTER BUT I STILL THINK IT’S STILL NOT QUITE WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE AND THEN AGAIN JUST PREPARING YOURSELF AND BEING READY TO PLAY NO MATTER WHO YOU’RE PLAYING. I THINK WE TEND TO KIND OF PLAY UP AND DOWN TO OUR OPPONENT. SO INSTEAD OF PLAYING AT A CONSISTENT LEVEL THAT WE KNOW WE CAN PLAY AT, WE KIND OF LOOK AT OUR OPPONENT AND THEN PLAY TO WHAT LEVEL WE FEEL THEY’RE AT. GETTING THAT MORE CONSISTENT I THINK IS SOMETHING THAT WE STILL NEED TO WORK ON.”
THE YELLOWSTONE QUAKE WILL TAKE PART IN THE NA3HL SHOWCASE TOURNAMENT DECEMBER 15TH THROUGH THE 17TH. THEN THE QUAKE GET A WEEK OFF FOR THE CHRISTMAS BREAK. THE QUAKE WILL RETURN TO FRONTIER DIVISION PLAY DECEMBER 31ST WHEN THEY HOST BOZEMAN.
