Written by Cole Havens on October 14, 2019
THE YELLOWSTONE QUAKE WERE BACK IN ACTION LAST WEEKEND TAKING ON THE TOP TEAM IN THE FRONTIER DIVISION, THE BOZEMAN ICE DOGS. THE QUAKE HELD THEIR GROUND LOSING 4-1 FRIDAY AND 4-3 SATURDAY. AND WHILE IT MAY NOT BE EVIDENT IN THE WIN COLUMN THIS TEAM CONTINUES TO SHOW IMPROVEMENT EACH WEEKEND, IT’S JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE EVERYTHING CLICKS. HEAD COACH PHIL OBERLIN TALKS ABOUT TAKING THAT PROVERBIAL NEXT STEP AND HOW THIS TEAM CAN STRING TOGETHER SOME WINS.
“IT JUST COMES WITH EXPERIENCE AS WELL. AND IT IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FEELING THAN LAST YEAR. JUST THE WAY GAMES ARE GOING IS MUCH DIFFERENT, WE’RE IN GAMES. WE’RE JUST TRYING TO CREATE A LITTLE BIT MORE OFFENSE AND I THINK ONCE THAT STUFF STARTS TO HAPPEN, THAT’S WHERE WE’LL START TO PLAY WITH A LITTLE BIT MORE CONFIDENCE AND A LITTLE BIT MORE SWAGGER IF YOU WILL, IN THOSE GAMES AND IN THOSE SITUATIONS.”
UP NEXT FOR YELLOWSTONE IS A WEEKEND SERIES AGAINST GREAT FALLS. THIS WILL BE THE QUAKES FIRST MEETING AGAINST THE AMERICANS AND COACH OBERLIN TALKS ABOUT WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE OPPOSITION.
“AT LEAST FROM LAST YEAR THEY’VE ALWAYS BEEN A PHYSICAL TEAM. THEY WERE EXTREMELY BIG LAST YEAR. OBVIOUSLY THEY HAD A BIT OF OVERTURN LAST YEAR, THEY WERE A PRETTY OLD GROUP BUT I DON’T THINK THAT’S GOING TO CHANGE MUCH. I THINK THAT THEY’RE GOING TO BE PRETTY SIMILAR TO WHERE THEY WERE LAST YEAR.”
AND COACH OBERLIN GOES ON TO TALK ABOUT THE QUAKE’S PREPARATION FOR THIS WEEK.
“OUR BREAK OUTS OF OUR D ZONE. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE’RE FLUID IN THAT AND AGAIN THAT WE’RE MOVING OUR FEET. WHAT WE’RE GOING TO BE WORKING ON, AGAIN IS THAT CONFIDENCE WITH THE PUCK AND UNDERSTANDING THAT WE WANT TO MOVE THE PUCK UNTIL WE’RE PRESSURED. I THINK JUST THOSE TYPES OF THINGS ARE THE THINGS THAT ARE GOING TO MAKE US SUCCESSFUL. AS LONG AS WE CAN SURE UP THE DEFENSIVE ZONE.”
THE YELLOWSTONE QUAKE TRAVEL TO GREAT FALLS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FOR A WEEKEND SERIES AGAINST THE AMERICANS WITH PUCK DROPPING AT 7:30 SATURDAY NIGHT AND 3 IN THE AFTERNOON ON SUNDAY.
AND FOR ALL YOU YELLOWSTONE QUAKE FANS OUT THERE COME OUT TO MILLSTONE PIZZA AND BREWERY IN CODY TONIGHT TO MEET THE 2019-2020 QUAKE TEAM. COACH OBERLIN TALKS MORE ABOUT THE MEET AND GREET.
