The Cody Police Department is looking for a white Dodge pickup truck that fled the scene after hitting and significantly injuring an 11-year-old boy riding his bike on Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at approximately 5:30 PM, Cody Police Officers responded to 16th Street and Stampede Avenue in Cody to a report of a child on a bicycle having been struck by a pickup truck.

Upon their arrival, officers learned that 11-year-old Parker DeFord was riding his bicycle across 16th Street at Stampede Avenue when he was struck by a pickup truck. The truck was apparently stopped at the intersection, preparing to turn right onto Stampede Avenue, when the crash occurred.

After striking the child, the truck left the scene traveling east down Stampede Avenue. Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a white, late-model Dodge pickup truck.

Parker DeFord was transported to the Cody Regional Health Center with “significant but non-life-threatening injuries.”

Parker suffered a broken tibia, two broken ribs, a punctured lung, and several broken teeth. According to Cody resident Bethany Fox, Parker was, fortunately, wearing his helmet at the time of the accident.

Video footage of the incident was obtained and is currently being reviewed by the investigating detectives.

A GoFundMe for Parker DeFord has been set up to help with his extensive medical bills.

This incident is still under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
