Alger & 17th Opens As Beck & 17th Closes

Written by on September 1, 2020

The work resumes and continues.

It’s now 1 week into Phase 2 of the Sheridan Avenue Rehabilitation project, and the results are speaking for themselves. The Alger Avenue Intersection with 17th Street reopens today, while the Beck Avenue Intersection at 17th will simultaneously close.  The work continues crawling along – concrete slab replacement, curb and gutter, double gutter, sidewalk and ADA upgrades. Within a week of the start, enough of this work was finished for the Alger Intersection to open again. Quite the feat, WYDOT.

On the other side – literally – the same work continues on the End of Phase I, east of 14th Street on Sheridan Avenue, and proceeding to west of 16th Street and Sheridan Avenue on the east bound lanes.   The south intersection of 15th Street and Sheridan Avenue is currently closed as part of this work. The work will work in both directions, eventually joining together before hoping to the other side of the street. This will complete Phase 2 of 4, hopefully before the weather turns too sour and winter rolls in. But until then, traffic is being carried in one lane each direction on one side of the street while work is being completed on the other half of the street.  The speed limit is reduced to 20 mph and no left turns are allowed through the work zone.

You can get more information during the weekly project status meetings, still being held at the southeast intersection of Sheridan and 16th Street at 9 a.m. today.
