Big Win For Warrior Soccer
Written by Chance Bond on March 31, 2021
The Last time these two teams played each other, there was a Trophy on the line. A 2019 Wyoming 3A State Champion Trophy to be exact. Worland would win that game 2-0 and take the title.
With the Pandemic, we all know what happened last season. The 2020 season was canceled and the State Championship was not able to be defended.
The Senior boys on the team were Sophomores in 2019. The Sophomores were in Middle School.
Didn’t seem to matter. The stakes were high and the tension was apparent. Worland was 2-0 in the early part of this season with wins over Sheridan 4-1 and a 7-0 win over Riverton on Saturday.
Powell was 3-0 on the season with wins over Buffalo 3-0, Cody 9-1, and Green River 5-1. The Panthers had their sights set on the Warriors.
After the first 80 minutes resulted in no scores by either team. Powell had 13 shots on goal while Worland had 10 shots. None would turn into goals.
With 1:02 left in the 1st Overtime, Rudy Sanford would get the ball to Cole Venable for the score and the lead.
After the second overtime and 16 second plus time, the Warriors would celebrate the victory.
Strong Defense from J.T. Klinghagen, Yahir Rodriguez, Jackson Wassum, and Kolter Wyman. Great saves by Keeper Kade Weber. Jorey Anderson, and Court Gonzalez coming up big on the defensive end.
Riley Blood, Mack Page, Gavin Schneider working the center of the offense and keeping Powell on their toes. The Warriors would get the win.
The Warriors will next be at home on April 10th at 2 pm against Mountain View. You can listen to the game on KWOR 104.7FM/1340AM or online at mybighornbasin.com
