Cody Cubs: 2021 State “A” Champions
Written by Cole Havens on July 29, 2021
The 2021 Wyoming Legion “A” State Baseball Tournament came to a conclusion Wednesday afternoon with the Cody Cubs capturing back-to-back state title victories, their sixth State Championship in the last eight years.
The Cubs were fantastic from the first pitch. Grady McCarten put the Cubs on the board first with an RBI single that scored Dominic Phillips in the top of the second.
The Cubs would add three more in the top of the third, thanks to a Jackson Schroeder 3-run Home Run over the Left Field Fence, his 11th of the season. That put Cody ahead 4-0.
Cheyenne would get on the board finally, in the bottom of the fourth. A single from Corey Williams and an overthrow by the Cubs defense allowed Aaron Gallant to score their first run. Ethan Reisdorfer the cleanup hitter would then bring in Williams with an RBI single for their last run of the game.
Cody would answer in the top of the fifth with a RBI Triple off the bat of Jackson Schroeder to score Blatt and Devyn Engdahl then brought in Schroeder with an RBI single to extend the lead, 6-2.
The Cubs would tack on two more in the sixth thanks to an Engdahl 2-out 2-RBI single giving Cody an 8-2 lead.
Tyler Grenz was flawless on the hill throwing seven innings of four hit ball, allowing two runs and striking out five. That’s after he threw a no-hitter vs. Powell.
Schroeder and Engdahl combined for seven RBI’s in the contest.
