Crash Victims Identified

Written by on March 17, 2017

The names of the victims of a fatal crash north of Lander have been released.

Paul McEwan, a 20 year old resident of Greybull, Darion Wheeler, an 18 year old resident of Lander, and Destinee Wheeler, a 15 year old resident of Hudson, all sustained fatal injuries on scene from the crash, which occurred Tuesday night at just after 8:00, about two miles north of Lander.

All three people who died were traveling together in an SUV that was being driven by Darion Wheeler. Wheeler failed to make a left-hand curve in the highway, overcorrected, spun, and collided with a pickup coming the other direction.

The pickup was driven by 42 year old Riverton resident Brian Rhodes, who was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. He was taken by ambulance to Lander and was hospitalized for his injuries.

None of the victims of the crash were ejected from their vehicles – but only Darion Wheeler was wearing his seat belt.

Excessive speed and driver inattention are being investigated as the contributing factors in this crash.
