Fire Reported in Bighorns

Written by on August 1, 2019

A forest fire has been reported in the northern Big Horn Mountains.

On the evening of July 30th, firefighters were looking for two reported fires in the northern portion of the Bighorn National Forest.  It was determined that there is likely only one fire, which has been named the Lick Creek fire.

This fire is located about a mile down Forest Trail 076, off of the Dayton Gulch Road. It is currently four acres in size, burning in heavy timber fuels.  Approximately 15 firefighters using All Terrain Vehicles and one helicopter from the Wyoming State Forestry arrived on the fire Tuesday morning to begin suppression actions, including fireline construction and water drops.  An additional 10 firefighters have been ordered to help secure the fire.

The weather is expected to remain hot and dry, and while the fire danger is currently listed as Moderate, the fire has potential to grow with passing thunderstorm winds that could hit the fire.

The public is asked to remain out of the fire area.
