June Activities at Bighorn Canyon

Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area is offering a mix of programs for June on the South District of the park near Lovell.
A presentation on astronomy at the Bighorn Medicine Wheel will feature Dr. Ivy Merriot sharing current research on the astronomical possibilities imbedded in the design of the twenty-eight spoked Wheel on Medicine Mountain. At 7pm on June 1st at the Lovell Visitor Center, Ivy will show astrophotographic images of the Wheel at night with the Milky Way blazing overhead along with a tour of cultural history of the site. And at 8pm the next night, June 2nd, she will give a talk at the Horseshoe Bend Campground Amphitheater incorporating the real Sky above the Bighorns in her demonstration of ancient indigenous astronomy.
Additionally, visitors can learn more about the Bighorn Canyon wildlife with Ranger Jerry Anderson during his program at the Horseshoe Bend amphitheater at 7:00 PM, June 8th.
Later in the month, volunteer Johnny Tim Yellowtail will share stories of the Little People and the history of Chief Plenty Coups at the Horseshoe Bend amphitheater at 7:00 PM, June 22nd.
