Meal Planning Benefits Everyone

Written by on March 14, 2019

Planning meals is an activity that can bring SO MANY benefits! Whether you’re cooking for one, for two, or for your entire family, taking the time to sit down and plan future meals will not only save you time, effort and money, but will also improve your eating habits – and will help you spend more quality time with your family. I’m Wendy Corr, with your Daily Wellness Tip!

When you take the time to plan meals, you tend to eat healthier food, you shop more efficiently, you spend more quality time with your family, and even satisfy picky eaters! Here’s how:

Simply take a blank menu template, which you can download for free from many internet sites. Compare that with your weekly schedule, so you know when you may have scheduling conflicts that might impact eating meals at home.  Choose simple breakfast, lunch and snack options that you can fill in those blanks – then choose an easy-to-prepare dinner recipe for each night of the week. Crock pot meals are great options. Make sure you choose recipes that satisfy the tastes of the individuals in your family!

After you’ve created your menu, on a separate sheet of paper, list the items you’ll need to create the meals – this is the basis for your grocery list.  You’ll save money if you only shop for the food you’re going to prepare!

And when it comes to meal prep, don’t forget to enlist the help of the younger members of the family. When they help with the cooking process, they’re much more likely to eat what they’ve helped to create!

Then post the menu on your fridge so everyone in the family knows the answer to that age-old question… what’s for dinner!

Even though the planning process takes time, you’ll actually save time during the week, when you tend to be more rushed.
