Mild Fire Season Predicted

Wyoming has seen two large wildfires and a number of smaller ones so far this summer, but officials are still predicting a relatively mild fire season overall.
The National Weather Service is not predicting an unusually dry summer for the state and current conditions indicate nearly all of the state should remain untouched by drought through September.
However, state Forester Bill Crapser told the Casper Star-Tribune that it all depends on weather conditions. Crapser says short bouts of exceptionally hot and dry weather can lead to rapid wildfire spread.
The forest fire burning in southern Wyoming grew quickly because of hot, dry and windy weather that occurred over a week’s time. The same conditions fueled the large grass fire that broke out near Worland last week.
